“Sun Ra” poem

Sun Ra

“Sun Ra

Outside with my guitar

I’m no Lana

Just a little girl

That wants to be known

The light shines

  from up above

I don’t know

  what’s to come

How will I have money

Busking the ball games

Back in Minneapolis

Now sitting on the grass

in a smaller town

  not expecting

  tips

Sun Ra

Overhead

The light in my eyes

With a cigarette

And backpack

New town

New rules

I know I’m just a

Girl who’s been through some things

Walking around

to the people in their cars.

They see me I know

What’s a poor girl

To do

Needing money

Needing love.”
