Season 1

The first season of Arrow consists of 23 episodes that aired from October 10, 2012, to May 15, 2013. The season introduces Oliver Queen as the Hood, a mysterious vigilante who targets the people on a list of names given to him by his father Robert Queen (Jamey Sheridan), who died in the shipwreck that stranded Oliver on the island of Lian Yu. Oliver reconnects with his mother Moira (Susanna Thompson), his sister Thea (Willa Holland), and his best friend Tommy Merlyn (Colin Donnell), while also rekindling his relationship with his former girlfriend Laurel Lance (Katie Cassidy), who is a lawyer and the daughter of Detective Quentin Lance (Paul Blackthorne). Oliver also recruits his bodyguard John Diggle (David Ramsey) and an IT expert Felicity Smoak (Emily Bett Rickards) to assist him in his mission. He also encounters other characters from the DC Comics universe, such as Huntress (Jessica De Gouw), Deathstroke (Manu Bennett), Deadshot (Michael Rowe), and Dark Archer (John Barrowman), who is revealed to be Tommy's father Malcolm Merlyn, the mastermind behind a plot to destroy a poor neighborhood called the Glades with an earthquake device.

The first season of Arrow received positive reviews from critics and audiences alike, who praised the action scenes, the performances, the storylines, and the dark tone of the show. The season averaged 3.68 million viewers per episode and was nominated for several awards, including four Saturn Awards, two Teen Choice Awards, and one People's Choice Award.

Season 2

The second season of Arrow consists of 23 episodes that aired from October 9, 2013, to May 14, 2014. The season picks up five months after the events of the first season finale, in which Malcolm Merlyn's plan to destroy the Glades was partially successful, killing hundreds of people, including Tommy Merlyn. Oliver struggles with his guilt and grief over Tommy's death, and decides to stop killing his enemies and adopt a new code of honor as the Arrow. He also faces new threats from Slade Wilson (Manu Bennett), a former friend and ally from the island who blames Oliver for the death of his love Shado (Celina Jade) and seeks revenge with an army of super-soldiers enhanced by a drug called Mirakuru; Sebastian Blood (Kevin Alejandro), a charismatic politician who secretly works for Slade and becomes the masked villain Brother Blood; and Isabel Rochev (Summer Glau), a ruthless businesswoman who takes over Queen Consolidated. Oliver also forms new alliances with Sara Lance (Caity Lotz), Laurel's sister who was presumed dead in the shipwreck but survived and became a trained assassin known as Canary; Roy Harper (Colton Haynes), a street kid who becomes Oliver's protégé after being injected with Mirakuru; and Barry Allen (Grant Gustin), a forensic scientist who is struck by lightning and gains super-speed, setting up the spin-off series The Flash.

The second season of Arrow received critical acclaim from critics and fans alike, who considered it a significant improvement over the first season, and praised the character development, the emotional depth, the action sequences, and the introduction of new elements from the DC Comics universe. The season averaged 3.28 million viewers per episode and was nominated for several awards, including five Saturn Awards, three Teen Choice Awards, and one People's Choice Award.

Season 3

The third season of Arrow consists of 23 episodes that aired from October 8, 2014, to May 13, 2015. The season focuses on Oliver's identity as the Arrow and his relationship with his team, as he faces a new enemy in Ra's al Ghul (Matt Nable), the leader of a secret society of assassins called the League of Assassins, who wants Oliver to succeed him as the next Ra's al Ghul. Oliver also deals with the consequences of his decision to reveal his identity to his sister Thea (Willa Holland), who is trained by Malcolm Merlyn (John Barrowman) to become a warrior; his romance with Felicity Smoak (Emily Bett Rickards), who becomes his girlfriend and later his fiancée; his rivalry with Ray Palmer (Brandon Routh), a billionaire inventor who becomes the superhero Atom and competes with Oliver for Felicity's affections; and his friendship with John Diggle (David Ramsey), who becomes a father and questions his role as a vigilante. The season also features the crossover episodes with The Flash, in which Oliver teams up with Barry Allen (Grant Gustin) and his allies to fight a common enemy; and the introduction of new characters from the DC Comics universe, such as Katana (Rila Fukushima), Wildcat (J.R. Ramirez), and Black Canary (Katie Cassidy), who is Laurel Lance's alter ego after she takes up her sister Sara's mantle following her murder.

The third season of Arrow received mixed reviews from critics and fans, who praised some aspects of the season, such as the performances, the action scenes, and the crossover episodes, but criticized others, such as the inconsistent tone, the lack of focus, the underwhelming villain, and the forced romance between Oliver and Felicity.
