The Wandering Earth II Image !NEW!
With the vision of making the film as realistic as "a documentary from the future," as Liu suggested, the film's crew invited 20 science consultants from the fields of astrophysics, theoretical physics, artificial intelligence, and earth science to help with the scientific details.

The Wandering Earth gives us a vision into the future, but the future it shows is a grim one. The sun is expanding into a red giant and threatening to engulf the planet. In order to save the earth from destruction, humans build enormous engines to propel the earth through space in hopes of finding a new, and less deadly star.
The concept art gives us a few images that seem to tie into this phase of the story. We see one of the enormous fusion-powered engines, a large city anchored on platforms and pillars, and what appears to be a spider-like mech engaging in battle.
In general, The Wandering Earth II projects an ambitious image of China that the Communist Party would like audiences to believe exists. Benevolently paternalistic officials leverage advanced technology alongside courageous Wolf Warriors to make this version of China (and by extension the world) a better place. At the same time, in an echo of real-world gaming and tech industry crackdowns, those who engage in digital escapism must be tamed lest they threaten social stability.
However, I did all kinds of tests before the actual production to find out how the image would look given the practicals we were using. We also did many tests using the SkyPanel to create different lighting effects and to match the various colors on set.
Moreover, I like images with a certain sharpness and a bit of an industrial look, but with no distortion. If we had a shot that had distortion in it, we fixed it in post. We wantes the images to look nice and neat, with no messiness. Sometimes, in an intense crisis situation, we would change the style a bit, but most of the time we just wanted all the lines to be vertical to the edge of the frame in order for the film to look more industrial.
The first rule we followed was to make sure all the lighting looked realistic. For instance, we needed to consider how the lighting was going to change according to the movements of Mars, the Earth, the Sun, and the engine. We also put some thoughts into color contrast. For example, the underground city where humans live was very crowded and messy. A high contrast, colorful image worked better than a clean one in these scenes. Here we used many different color lights and set them at different angles as background lighting.
In the near future, the sun is rapidly expanding and will engulf the earth within 100 years. To ensure the survival of humankind, nations join hands to form an unprecedented, ambitious global project to build powerful engines on the earth's surface and propel the planet away from impending doom. Meanwhile, protests have broken out to demand the restart of the controversial Digital Life Project, which digitalises human beings after they have passed. Tensions soon escalate and the protestors plan to sabotage the Wandering Earth Project by attacking the Ark Space Station...
The transparent case reflects the skin of the wrist below when wearing the watch, which is the color of the earth. "Look up at the great vast sky, and look down to earth", strengthening the concept of a Round Sky embracing a Square Earth.
Rapidly growing, China can no longer remain low-key or encourage its citizens with war memories. Instead, the Chinese government has changed its mindset and started to build a more positive and confident image. With the influence of the shifting policy, there is a shifting nationalist idea in China: China is now strong enough to protect its citizens and lead the world. Such an idea has also projected onto Chinese film industry. 041b061a72
